One of the most frequently asked questions about the Attitude Era is when it actually began and ended, which is very debatable, but while people will always argue over that, I would like to know what people consider the actual peak of the Attitude Era to be. It's widely accepted that 1999 and 2000 were the most successful years for WWE in that era, which saw many records broken, and are the two years that would be chosen when thinking of the actual peak of that whole era.

At the start of 1999, we saw the seeds being sown for **Austin/Rock** whilst both men were busy with their actual feuds in **Austin/McMahon** and **Rock/Foley**, which were seamed into each other, as well as the debut of **The Big Show** around the same time. We had seen **The Ministry of Darkness**, led by **The Undertaker**, really begin to take over, with **The Brood, The Acolytes, Mideon,** and **Viscera** all alongside **The Undertaker**. We saw the beginning of the rise of **Triple H** once he turned heel at **WrestleMania 15**, and he evolved from a comedic midcard face to a sadistic main event uber heel, just as once **The Rock** turned face, he evolved into a mainstream superstar by the end of the year.

Whilst it was not a great year as far as in-ring and match quality went, storyline-wise, it was on fire with **Austin/McMahon, Austin/Rock, Austin/Undertaker, Austin/Triple H, Rock/Triple H, Rock/Undertaker, Rock/Foley, Undertaker/Kane, The Hardys/Edge/Christian, the debut of Chris Jericho, the debut of Kurt Angle, The Rock and Sock Connection, This Is Your Life Rock, and Triple H "married" Stephanie McMahon,** and **Triple H**. The whole product in WWE was very maturely themed, and the whole setting seemed very dark and edgy, which caught on and connected with fans on a HUGE level.

In 2000, it is actually said to have been a more successful year financially than 1999 was, although I have always attributed that to how poor **WCW** was and more **WCW** fans crossing over to WWE because of it. It was the year **The Rock** really became the equal of **Stone Cold Steve Austin**, but it was also the year **Triple H** became the best all-around in-ring performer in the world. Match quality and the in-ring product had certainly improved as WWE added **Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko,** and **Perry Saturn** to the roster, which, along with **Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Taz, William Regal,** and **Sean Waltman**, created a great midcard.

The tag team division took off HUGE again with **The Hardys, Edge and Christian, The Dudley Boys, The APA, and Too Cool** producing great matches and providing the best that division had seen since the glory days of the 80s and early 90s. Storyline-wise, it wasn't as good as the year before, with the main storyline being **Who Ran Over Stone Cold Steve Austin**, which kind of overshadowed **Rock** and **Triple H** at times but was a truly great feud. We saw **The Undertaker** change his character completely, the end of **Mick Foley** as an in-ring performer, and the end of **Shawn Michaels** on screen for a couple of years. All in all, both years were superb, but which was the actual peak of that era for you?

When was the peak of the Attitude Era, 1999 or 2000?
