5x COVID — Brain Fog Still Hasn’t Left, Can’t Retain Anything

Bedbound Recovery

Hi everyone,

I originally posted about this a couple of years ago, but things haven’t improved; they’ve gotten worse.

I’ve now had COVID five times since mid-2021. After the first infection, I started experiencing severe brain fog. At the time, I thought it was temporary. But after each subsequent infection (especially after the second one in mid-2022), it feels like the clock has reset, and the fog has only deepened.

It's been years now, and this cognitive fog hasn’t lifted. It’s affecting every part of my life. I’ve had to put my studies on hold because I can’t retain information anymore. I’ll write notes one day, and then the next day, I’ll read them and not even remember writing them. There’s a hard disconnect between me and my short-term memory.

It’s not just studying either. I forget conversations as they’re happening. I lose track of what I’m saying mid-sentence. Even at work — a job I’ve done for over eight years — there are days when I sit down and genuinely don’t remember how to do tasks I used to do on autopilot.

I’ve been to multiple doctors (who tell me this is still a new field and not much has been tested), read countless articles, tried every suggestion I could find… but nothing seems to make a difference. At this point, I’m starting to wonder if this is really just “COVID brain fog” or if my brain is just... burned out.

Has anyone gone through something similar and found even a partial solution? Has anything helped you recover, even a little bit?

Any advice or encouragement would mean a lot.
