PrEP from Mistr Review (25M)

Advice

Wanted to provide an honest review of my (25M) experience getting PrEP from Mistr (I do not have a local clinic in my area that makes any sense to use instead of online pharma, I checked and called everywhere!)

Wanted to preface this with the fact that I haven’t been on PrEP at all before, and I’m so grateful for services like Mistr that do help get people like me (without insurance) PrEP at a reasonable (in most cases free) rate.

I contacted Mistr on June 20 to get started, was immediately shipped a testing kit, and then had a consultation scheduled for June 24 with a provider. The online consultation with the doctor was fine but was really rushed, got told which medication was better for my situation, asked if I wanted to add DoxyPEP, and was read a quick script about PrEP / DoxyPEP in general and the call ended (about a 2 minute experience overall).

The testing kit came a few days later, and it was relatively seamless except for the blood sample, which takes some getting used to. Sent that off same day and got a notification about 10 days later that one of my samples was insufficient and they were sending a replacement kit (I didn’t fill the blood card circles all the way to the edges).

About a week after that, I finally received a fresh blood sample card and did it right this time and sent it back. A week after that finally got my results and my prescription was sent to the pharmacy (this was last Thursday). It’s now late Monday night and no update on when the prescription will be shipped.

The whole experience overall has been a bit frustrating. I anticipate getting my medication the end of this week (I hope), but all-in-all a 40+ day wait from first contact to when I actually get the meds is a bit long (granted having to send in a replacement added some time).

I recommend Mistr to those in rural areas or those without the proper means to get PrEP at an affordable rate by traditional means. However, if you can possibly avoid it, I would.

TL;DR: Contacted Mistr over a month ago, went through all the steps and still waiting on my PrEP to arrive.
