Police/Detectives of Brisbane, do you like your job?

Employment

Pretty specific post but there's gotta be at least a couple cops in this group.

I'm considering a (huge) career change. I'm interested in what it might be like to be a detective (and beyond).

Like most people who want to become part of the police force, I want to make my community a safer place and help people. Do you feel in your roll that you actually get the opportunity to do this?

It seems that the intention starts there, and then that message is lost somewhere down the line. Of course this is from and outside perspective but I have heard the policing system can knock that drive to make a change right out of you and it just becomes paperwork and statistics.

Is there much opportunity for growth and specialising in certain areas? When you don't see change in the community, do you take it hard? Can it be discouraging? What kind of person do you feel like you have to be to thrive in your role?

I've got about a million questions but I'm interested in any perspective you might have to share :) Cheers.
