how can i best support my boyfriend?
hi! i’m just looking for some tips/advice on how i can best support my boyfriend. he recently came to me and told me that he’s been feeling depressed and sad all the time, like a burden, worthless, etc.
he’s usually a very easygoing, happy person but i had started to notice the disinterest in things and the face that he began sleeping for 12-15 hours at a time. he used to be very passionate about sports and video games, and now doesn’t seem to have much interest in either. i try to encourage him to go out with friends, go to games with him or watch him play, I even started learning to play the ps5 with him because he loves it and i try to do activities with him that he enjoys.
i’ve tried for years (we’ve been together for 5) to get him to feel comfortable talking about mental health, and he always denied any problems. he won’t ever let anyone carry his burdens. but today he came to me crying and told me that he’s been feeling like life would be better if he was gone and that he thinks he needs to see a counselor or something. i told him that i was proud of him, because i know how hard it is to admit that you need help. he is the kindest, gentlest person i know. i try to compliment him as much as i can, i cook his favorite foods, i get him little gifts, i massage the knots out of his shoulders, i do my best to make him feel appreciated, etc. I’m not trying to make this abt me but I just don’t know what else I can do to make him see that i love him. im so sad that he doesn’t see himself the way i do. any help is appreciated, i don’t want to lose him. thank you
