TIFU by mistaking strangers for friends at a gig
Just a light short story. I went to a gig a week ago and arrived a bit early, so the venue wasn’t that crowded yet. From across the room, I saw a group of people waving in my direction. I couldn’t really see their faces, but I figured they must know me, so I confidently walked over to say hi.
As I got closer, I slowly realized I didn’t recognize any of them... but instead of turning around like I should have done, I just committed and greeted them anyway. I'm a French girl so I did the usual cheek kisses and everything to all of them.
The moment was so awkward because we all knew they hadn’t been waving at me at all (they probably waived at someone behind me), but no one said anything. I just quietly left right after, heading to a random corner as I was by myself, dying inside.
Later in the night, I ended up running into them again (after a few drinks), and we actually laughed about it together. But yeah… smooth move.
TL;DR: Went to a gig, saw people waving and assumed they knew me. Walked over, greeted them with French cheek kisses… Realized they were waving at someone else. We all knew it, left without saying anything, died inside.
