Rude attending living rent free in my head.

VENT

PCCM fellow here.

I’ve been a decent guy. Received shoutouts from ICU nurses & residents who work with me for helping out and having a good attitude (I honestly feel it’s a bit undeserved lol).

Occasionally I’ll have disagreements with some of the hospital staff (ER/Cards/Hospitalists) etc. But always remain cordial and move on easily.

2 weeks ago, the chief of Oncology yelled at me over the phone. Can’t share details but it was completely unprovoked. I even put it on speaker and a cofellow and my attending heard it. He’s apparently known for being a jerk.

I filed a formal complaint with my program chief. Wrote all the details with time stamps and some quotes from our convo. Also raised patient safety issues since he did not listen to what I said, leading to a near miss event and patient harm.

The problem is: it’s been two weeks. And I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s unhealthy at this point. Especially since holding grudges is uncharacteristic of me. Yet here I am. Today we both happened to be in the elevator together. Part of me wants to yell/scream/cuss at him. That would have been more cathartic than going down the formal complaint route and I guess I’d have felt better.

This is mainly a vent. I know I sound silly. But if anyone has tips on how to move on (especially when one crosses several lines like the aforementioned attending) please share ‘em.
