Probably where this post belongs
Preface: I’m slightly new to reddit and I tend to stay to a pretty small arena of my comfort zones. I’m also not trying to get validation for my personal ego or pride, just genuinely unsure if I over stepped, crossed a line, or god forbid, albeit unintentional, hurt some people.
I’ve made a few OG posts to smaller subs that all received fairly to outstandingly positive responses so my experience thus far from others has been extremely positive. Now, I’m not naive and have seen the blasting people get over controversial stuff but I experienced my first reaming for the first time and I’m wondering if people take comments on posts more serious than the post itself? To reference, I love stand up, so I watch all the stand up comedy sub stuff, and there was a comedian with a great bit, historical, dark humor and racial tones all were involved in the bit. I added a comment/joke relating to the bit that was a smaller sample of a joke I’ve told several times to people, for what its worth, relate culturally to the subject of the bit and my joke. I actually sent the comedians bit and my comment to several friends(they all laughed and enjoyed but they know me) then the rails fell off in the comment section. I tried to salvage it by following up with a “i thought this was a comedy sub” kinda response. Crucified there too. Is this a common thing in highly popular subs or was I just flat out wrong and out of my element?
