WA Firearms Act 2024 - Petition to suspend changes until Legislative Council completes review
Long time lurker, first time poster. My story - I'm a small farmer with livestock in the Great Southern and use firearms mainly for feral foxes / other none-native pests on mine and neighbour's properties.
Just bringing attention of the current state of the Firearms Act 2024 and a petition asking for the new changes to be suspended until review from the Legislative Council (which was passed unanimously) has been completed.
I really don't understand how it can be pushed through without being passed by the Legislative Council first? But I believe it is up for review mainly due the concerns of the Henry VIII laws within the act and other key issues which is worrying it can be pushed through.

Currently 20K+ people have signed but looking for more before it closes on the 5th of August.
The new system is just not working -
- I've been trying to register with the new $35 million online portal since 1st of April but cannot be due a 'technical issue' as my address is a 'Lot'. I was told I would be informed when this is fixed waiting 3 months. My neighbours have similar problems, so we haven't been able to provide hunting permission letters this year - especially during the fox breeding period.
- I've read they are having issues renewing people's licenses and reverting back to paper, or simply 'extending' expired licenses while they try to fix it. I'm not up for renewal till the end of the year so guess will be experiencing this soon.
- I've also read there was a data leak where people could view other owner's firearm information and storage / safe locations and addresses on the portal.
I don't think any firearm owner is against ensuring safety but whatever they are trying here doesn't seem to be working and has missed the mark. They need to go back and have another go. Just bringing this attention to people who might not be aware and hoping you might support by signing the petition.
