Co-worker with barely any tasks, yet magically logs the most hours

Self-Story

So at our job, we use this "unlimited time tracker". Our boss doesn’t really monitor how many hours we work.

But plot twist, our boss suddenly decided we should start logging our tasks for the sake of “transparency.” So now, it’s not just about how long you’re clocked in, it’s about proving you actually did something with those hours.

There’s no contract binding us, but it’s like this sacred, unspoken rule in our team: You only clock in if you’re actually doing something.

Enter my co-worker. Let’s call her “Miss Log.” She does maybe 10% of what I do. Her task list reads like a preschool planner: “Wake up. Scroll phone. Complain. Repeat.”

Now, I'm also the unlucky soul in charge of payroll (yay), so I happened to see her salary. Turns out she’s making around ₱60K/month. That’s half of mine, which sounds reasonable… until you realize I’m doing both her job and mine. At this point, I think she’s just quietly subcontracted her role to me without even splitting the paycheck.

I confronted her about it last year because I was basically doing the tasks she was supposed to handle. She’s also... let’s say, not the most competent, always asking for help like we’re her personal support team. On top of that, the hours she clocked in didn’t match the (lack of) output she delivered.

Turns out, I was right. She admitted she was clocking in just to boost her pay. Her excuse? Her rate is lower than everyone else’s and this job is their only source of income. And then she hit me with, “Kapwa Pilipino ko pa ang manghihila sa akin pababa.” Girl, this isn’t crab mentality, this is clock-in-and-collect mentality. That’s not how employment works; that’s how freeloading works.

She laid low for a bit (probably because her salary took a nosedive). But surprise, surprise! She’s back at it again.

Trying to be understanding (maybe she’s going through something?), I did a little harmless Facebook snooping. Big mistake. Turns out she’s a real estate agent. Like, full-blown "Here’s the keys, ma’am" level. She’s out there filming video ads, dressed in power suits, touring houses like a YouTuber. And guess what? Boss has no idea.

For context, our boss specifically said we’re not supposed to have side jobs if we’re working 9 hours a day. Fair enough, unless she’s secretly mastered time-bending or owns a Time-Turner, those hours have to overlap somewhere.

But wait, it gets better. She’s apparently in her gym era this year. I know because her gym proudly posts class schedules and post-workout group selfies of their sweaty, glowing members... and who do I spot striking a pose in leggings? Yep, Miss Log herself, supposedly “working” at 6:00 PM while simultaneously doing downward dog like it’s part of her deliverables.

Just this week, I saw her posts in a yoga class while technically “working” in one of our shared spreadsheets. Her cursor hasn’t moved from cell A1. Zero edits. Zero work. Maximum stretch.

I mean, good for her if she’s thriving. Her lifestyle definitely leveled up, monthly trips abroad, designer outfits and workout clothes, newest phones every release. I don’t mind how she lives, she could bathe in gold if she wants. But what baffles me is why she has to scam the system when she clearly has another job bringing in cash. It’s not just dishonest, it’s unfair to the rest of us. Sooner or later, if our boss catches on, we might all get dragged into the fallout, even if we’re doing nothing wrong.

Anyway, this is just a rant. I’m still not sure if I’ll ever tell our boss. I’m torn because let’s be real, if anyone’s getting noticed first, it’s me. I’m the highest-paid one on the team (which is way more obvious than the amount of work I actually do). So if things go south, I might end up being the first one under the microscope.

Thanks for coming to my stress dump. 😅
