AllNovaScotia. Com is reporting multiple groups of well connected South End residents are trying to appeal to the UARB a re-zoning decision by the CAO that allows ER-3 (multi unit) development in the South End.
One group argues their neighborhood doesn't have the infrastructure to support townhouses and therefore it should remain single detached dwellings. Another group argues it would devalue the land they own.
Among the signers is the CEO of one of Canada's largest REITs, members of a well known Halifax-based family of developers, and at least one big name in the real-estate game. There's a sense of irony regarding some of the people who are opposed to this change.
We should be looking to develop density on the peninsula, which absolutely includes the South End imo. Good luck to the applicants but I hope the decision sticks.
