Vitamins & Labs - False Sense of Security?
Just looking for some feedback from DS people who are farther out from surgery... when do you know for certain that your vitamin regimen is sufficient? I’m really afraid to assume I’m okay just because my labs are good so far.
For context…
I’ve been super on top of my vitamins my whole life and haven’t had issues post op sticking to my programs guidelines. I’m two years post op as of August and have had my labs done several times over the past couple years. They were all normal pre op and they continue to be normal post op. I had a tiny dip in my vitamin d at six months so we added an extra dose in the afternoon and they’ve bounced back wonderfully. They were never out of normal range but my doc & I wanted to be proactive to prevent it from continuing to dip.
I guess I’m just anxious because I got dog-piled on last year when I had commented (not on Reddit) to someone about the brand of vitamins I use and how my labs were great so far. I was shamed for giving advice when I was only one year out and told it was irresponsible to assume I was fine because true deficiencies don’t pop up until the two year mark. Well, here I sit with my two year labs and everything is right where it should be. I even checked the trends of my last four labs and there are no dips. My B12 is actually a little too high right now lol.
So my question is: am I safe? Does this mean the vitamins I’ve been taking are truly doing their job? Or am I still in danger of a big drop at some point? I have a couple friends who have started the WLS process after seeing my success with it and I want to recommend my vitamins to them but I still have this fear that I’m under a false sense of security.
Any feedback / anecdotal experience is appreciated!
