Why am I constantly dissociating...

Vent / Rant

As someone with diagnosed (C)ptsd, I realize that I'm constantly dissociating. Depending on the day and what goes on, I find that any little trigger that ticks me off will result in a full blown dissociative episode.

However, what frustrates me the most is the fact that I don't realize I'm dissociating in the moment until much later — either after a full blown episode or if I'm consciously thinking about dissociation (this usually happens after a therapy session).

My dissociative episodes usually last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours — within that time frame I can usually fully function and go about my day to day.

Do I remember what I did? Do I respond as my best self? / No and no.

I honestly didn't even realize what dissociation entailed until talking about it with other people. This said, sometimes an episode can look like a full out-of-body experience, while other times I just feel numb and foggy and removed from whenever I am. Unless it's someone extremely close to me (and mental health professionals), from the outside I've been told that I look and act completely normal.

Either way, I'm usually not able to identify it immediately, and I'm also not sure how long it takes for me to identify it.

All of this said, I was wondering if this is common for individuals with CPTSD and if so, are there any tips for identifying when dissociation is happening quicker and for grounding? Or is this normal and something everyone goes through?
