Boston Nice vs Kind, T style..

MBTA/Transit 🚇 🔥

TLDR: blue line shuttle driver helped out lost tourists on the wrong route causing us to miss our connection during the hot mess that was Thursday’s traffic hell costing us an additional 90 min. We almost missed our fave restaurant because of it.

Oh, it wouldn’t be a trip home if I didn’t have the chance to bitch about the T.

We all know Thursday traffic was literally a dumpster fire thanks to dump truck shenanigans (my thoughts go to those affected and now have to deal with an insurance hassle). It took us forever to get to Chelsea to get to the airport to drop off the rental (I advised the husband early Friday AM before our flight would have been better but nope…I have NO CLUE what I’m taking about).

We drop off the car and jump on the 33 to get to the airport station. BAD idea as I forgot E is international and it was backed up to hell thanks to the time of day and typical international departures, DOH! Well, at least it only goes to C, E, then the T and then rental cars. No biggie, right?

WHELP! A group of tourists were confused and yelled out, “doesn’t this go to B?”. I usually mind my own business but I felt like being kind and explaining that they need to hop off this bus and get on one of the routes that service B. I pointed out the lines listed above and told them how to fix their simple and understandable mistake.

I return to minding my own business. This was my next mistake.

Suddenly we are looping back into the airport and headed towards terminal B. What the hell?! It took us forever thanks to it being messier than usual. I go up to the driver, who is being berated by an elderly English guy (dude was uncool). I step in and say, “is this the 33?” He refused to acknowledge the English guy but said “yes, and I asked if you all were going to B! You all said yes!” The eff we did not. I told him calmly that we did not AND the one guy in the back row with his ear buds in was super confused and would never have heard you.

“I was trying to be nice,” no dude. We’re not nice here. If it were ME? I would have been given a quick lesson on why I’m a dumbass and on the wrong line and told to get off at the next stop to fix my mistake.

Now you have inconvenienced everyone else by being “nice”. The kind thing to do would have been to tell them how to fix their mistake. I gave the rando guy in the back an update and he rolled his eyes and thanked me. The driver then took us directly to the T.

We missed the SL3 to Chelsea as planned (which was already on a delay due to traffic, which I planned for) and ended up getting in far later than planned. It was so much fun watching that arrow that was headed for us just sit in the I tunnel as we waited. Uber was being a pain and not letting us drop the pin where we were (it kept directing us back to the airport) so we stuck with the SL. I had to convince my husband that 45 min before close is okay to grab a bite to eat and it was no big deal (he has bartender courtesy to his own detriment sometimes).

Since when does a bus or airport shuttle change its route? Back in my day I would have gotten a lesson on how I messed up and how I can fix it myself. They most certainly wouldn’t have been nice but kind enough to tell me how to fix my mistake.

Hey, at least our dinner at Ciao in Chelsea was phenomenal as always.

May all your travels be as smooth as possible, at the very least free from fires over the Mystic.
