08/02/2025 I got my first real apartment

I just moved into a new place yesterday. I finished unpacking everything today. I have lived on my own before, but those places were so poorly maintained that they were barely habitable.

For the first three years after I moved out, I was struggling in the ghetto. I moved somewhere nicer in 2023, but as often happens with nicer neighborhoods, the price of rent went up. Because of that I had to switch back to having roommates for a little while because there was no way I could afford a place here on my own.

The places I lived in when I was in a really bad part of town never felt like they were “mine”. living conditions were so poor I just did not feel comfortable. When I said, my old neighborhood was dangerous I mean it. The entire building was overrun with roaches to the point where nothing short of burning the whole place down would get rid of them. I couldn’t even eat in my apartment because they were crawling all over everything. I didn’t store food either because they somehow got in the refrigerator.

I also lived down the hall from a registered sex offender (which I didn’t find out about until after I moved in) and was harassed by the maintenance guy. Also, we had rats and my shower didn’t work so I actually had to go over to my friend’s place to shower. Living in those places was one step up from living in an abandoned building.

This place isn’t like that. It doesn’t have the same issues that I encountered in other places. It’s also 100% mine. Well, not literally. I’m still renting, but I don’t have any roommates. I’m generally not opposed to having a roommate, but it has to be somebody. I know well well and all of the others people I roomed with were randomly assigned and we didn’t really get along. It was also a little bit difficult living with roommates because I work the night shift, but none of them did so it caused a few problems.

But I don’t have to worry about that anymore. I can sleep whenever I want mostly without being disturbed. My cat also seems to really like the place. There’s a lot more space for her to move around and she’s got a nice big window to look out of during the day. It’s wonderful. It might be tiny, but I’ve been here a whole night, cooked, showered, slept.

There’s not a damn thing wrong with it. I can cook freely in the kitchen without having to worry about any cockroaches, crawling into the pan. I can take a shower and it works just fine. I can breathe easily because there’s no mold, which couldn’t be said for the place. I just moved out of. It’s tiny, but it’s comfortable. I hope everything works out for the best here but so far I’m getting a really good vibe from this place.
