Is this grooming? TW in case
i (f18) have a male (40) coworker who i’ve grown close to and have always felt comfortable around. I’ve worked with him for over a year at my part time job; he is a full timer (above me). Lately, since July (it’s august), i’ve noticed he is a lot more touchy with me. He has always been touchy and i’ve thought nothing of it—it went as far as pats on the back and an arm around my shoulders. But now, he has physically picked me up multiple times, even on the sales floor and in front of coworkers. He has been putting his hand on my waist/hip area, giving me back and front hugs, and kissing me on my forehead countless times, even when i move my head. I am very uncomfortable by this, it makes me want to shrink into the earth when he extends his arms out and touches me, even if it’s merely his hand on my waist. for context, i have reported s different male coworker to HR, but nothing was done about it. It was a big case, multidepartmental and multiple people—everyone was uncomfortable from what i know. Yet nothing was done, and i was told to transfer even. I bring this up quickly to explain that even if i said something to HR, nothing would happen—so much shit gets swept under the rug. And this coworker i am now noticing issues with i had confided in and received support from in my reporting of sexual harassment, he helped me emotionally deal with being abandoned by management. So he knows the system. On me, i think i resort to a fawning coping mechanism, even though i didn’t say no firmly, it doesn’t mean i said yes and my body language shows i’m uncomfortable. I am horrible at setting boundaries and grew up in cyber school (a lot social isolation) and an emotionally unavailable/abusive family. I have mental health struggles. He knows these things about me, my weaknesses. I overshare, even when my intuition is telling me to be quiet. I am a people pleaser and terrified of pissing him off, especially being that we work together and he is physically stronger than me. He texts me on my days off, a lot, even sending good nights and updates in his personal life. I thought it was innocent at first, but now i’m unsure and uncomfortable and scared. He comments things like “youre beautiful,” “you have a nice body,” “i feel like i can be most like myself around you, that’s what attracts me to you,” “you like that store huh (when i was telling about him when i went to dicks),” something about having kids together and rhyming some poem that included the words horny and corny (i think he asked if he makes me horny, i honestly don’t remember i was shocked). i said i’m a black girl (i like black clothing, headphones, etc, and just said it that way) and he said “well then i like dark chocolate.” I remember back early before this my other female coworker making a comment that “it’s a good thing she just turned 18.” Also, he and the guy i actually did report would joke (?) about taking me about when i’m 21 to get drunk and how cool it would to see me get giggly and alcohol courage. He has a girlfriend of i think like 10 years, a long time, NOT MARRIED, and we’d talk about her and such, but i don’t hear much about her anymore, nothing, and when i bring up about her causally he doesn’t do anything with it. That concerns me and i know they’re still together. Am i being over dramatic and taking this too far, or is something seriously wrong here? I feel like i trusted him, like he really heard and understood me and just got me. I don’t want to get him in trouble, and i don’t know how to confront him, or if i want to. I am cutting back my hours from 32 to probably 8 as i start my first year of college, but even with that i still will work theee once a week, which is creepy enough. he had my tennis competition schedule too—why (he make me send it to him, or i just felt compelled to). Also we’ve been taking lunch together recent as per his suggestion, which i didn’t think much of cause i’ve done it with another coworker before. and he also sends me pictures of him, one is of his face in a bed at night, he sends me heart hands, he says i love you a lot. it feels like love bombing. how can i trust myself in this? i feel like the people i’ve confided in are under reacting. I don’t want to report it to HR or further, it was already hard enough for me to endure the first time with HR. i know, what if someone after me encounters this, that’s true. But with my clinical depression it feels impossible, maybe you can try to convince me. This job, too is all he has—and yes, i know, protecting the abuser. But i don’t want to be evil in my actions. GOSH why am i getting trapped in these situations, i promise i’m not super good looking
