How fast can abortion laws change?

I’ve noticed a number of “even though I’m not open to life, I’m comfortable having sex because abortion is legal here”

Is the implication that abortion bans can’t be sudden?

On the topic, if it actually could change suddenly, do people who make this claim just fail to consider that?
