Favikon started getting traffic from Google News 2 weeks ago for the first time
My customer, Favikon, started to get traffic from Google News.

And I did nothing to make it happen. Yes, I have to be honest. I do a lot of other useful things for Favikon SEO success, but this achievement is a combination of:
- constant work of the Favikon team on great content;
- luck.
You can't apply to be added to Google News now.
Since April 2024, Google News has been switching to fully automatic publication pages. Any site that meets news content and transparency standards can be picked up by the algorithms and start getting clicks.
Interestingly, the page that generated the most clicks from Google News is a list of top influencers from Osnabrück, a small city with 160k population in Germany.
So, now Favikon gets traffic from Google Discover and Google News in addition to basic search and AI chats. You may say that most of the traffic from Discover and News is irrelevant and won't be converted into sales.
You underestimate a few things:
- Favikon writes top influencers lists for organic search anyway, so traffic from News and Discover is just a bonus.
- Creators often add backlinks to top influencer lists. You never know which list will get an organic backlink. This is a game of numbers. More listicles = more backlinks.
The most important one. Once you're approved in News and Discover, you can enrich your content marketing strategy with topics that don't have a huge search demand, but may have a good conversion rate: data studies, interviews with influencers, etc.
This is a great example of why and how B2B brands should build their own media. You'll definitely lose most of the search traffic from top and middle-of-funnel keywords.
