Intentional or unintentional, avoidants using harshness to initiate and enforce no contact?

I've been no contact with my ex for about a month now after we both took some space (argument surrounding travel plans), and while I'm trying not to dwell on it, this question came up after thinking about why. In your experience, do avoidant exes tend to become harsh, not just distant right before they break up, take space, or going no contact? Do they even do this intentionally or is it something they're blind to?

Not just withdrawing, but when you're being patient and trying to communicate, do they sometimes respond with sharpness, coldness or even anger as a way to shut things down and enforce their need for space / no contact?

To provide an example from my experience: We both took some space to mutually cooldown, came back after an agreed period of time to which when I tried to reconnect I was met with coldness initially. A few days passed and boom no contact suddenly was happening without communicating it, so I gave it 2-weeks and when reaching out was met with harshness and what felt like anger. One of the statements was quite literally "i wish you could see into my core and see how empty it is for you" after 3-years of dating.

I would be eager to hear if anyone has had the same experiences or any input, I plan on keeping no contact but it's so confusing how there is sudden bitterness and anger, this confusion almost causing me to reach out to clarify lol.
