AITK for kicking my MIL out of my house?

Relationships

I'm 29M, got married in 2022. Before it, we properly discussed about our future. We both work and live separately from our parents. It's a 2bhk, 1 room for us, 2nd for guests or family visits.

2 years ago, my FIL died of heart attack. My wife is an only child, her mom was left all alone. At that time, my wife brought her to stay with us. I completely supported it as it was understandable and genuine.

Now it's been 2yrs, she's still living with us. She's not toxic, but you know that respecting boundaries is a foreign concept for desi parents. I'm facing a lot of issues with her presence. Our privacy, personal space, and couple time are almost gone. We have to consider her in everything, dinners, movies, travelling etc. She can't be left alone in night, so we've to include her in our couple-only outings.

There’s also this unspoken pressure to behave a certain way at home. I used to chill in shorts, shirtless, just be comfortable in my own space, etc etc. But now I've to maintain basic etiquettes and be presentable even at home. Our flat is small. She expects us to spend our time with her.

During workdays, we only get few hours after work to spend as a couple and even that feels invaded. Her mom’s room doesn’t have an AC or TV, so she uses our room and bed in daytime. It feels very weird to me, since as a young couple, we're sexually active and that bed gets warm almost every night. And don't forget, we've to turn on a random movie on high volume to do s3x.

Another thing that bothered me was that my own parents and brother couldn't visit us as the house was always occupied. I had several peaceful talk with my wife about this, but she doesn’t want to change the setup. She's enjoying this phase of both mommy and hubby living with her. But it’s suffocating me. Note that her mom has moved on from her husband's death and no major health issues.

Last week, it led to a fight. Her mom overheard us. Next day, she casually said that she will leave soon. My wife told her to stay, but I found it to be the golden opportunity and said I’ll book her train ticket myself. It was enough, her mom left yesterday.

Now my wife is in a full cold-war mode with me. MIL gets a pension, can hire a caretaker. Earlier, I’ve offered my wife several times to visit their house and help her mom make arrangements, but she never listened. Now her mom will setup the things herself.
