This sub should change its banner
I know that very few people here agree with me, but even if you don't agree with me, please read the whole text. Well, the sub rules state that all young people are welcome in this sub. That includes "queer" people. And yes, of course I agree, "queer" people should also have the right to participate in this sub. But the rainbow flag doesn't represent everyone in this sub. Even some gay, lesbian, and bisexual people don't identify as "queer." Even if their sexuality were actually present in the flag, they don't identify with this label. The rainbow flag is the flag of a minority, even within Gen Z. By flying a rainbow flag, you show that you are either "queer" yourself or that you support these identities or the label "queer." But not everyone "supports" these identities. This may be for religious reasons, but there are also other reasons to be critical of it. Approximately a quarter of American Gen Z people today identify as "LGBTQ." In 2020, the number was 15.9%. Among Millennials, it was 5.8% in 2012 and 14.2% in 2024. For Boomers, it was 1.8% in 2012 and 3% in 2024. One could certainly believe that this is also a trend. A trend that is not only driven by "normalization." I don't want to discuss whether that's true or not. But I want to say that not everyone who doesn't support LGBTQ people actually hates or bullies, or would bully, queer people. Hate and bullying are terrible things that no one deserves. Hate and bullying are completely contrary to Christianity and also to the values of many atheists or Jews who don't support LGBTQ. You don't have to support LGBTQ people to treat them with respect and wish them the best.
