Did I overreact as a newbie?

I've been chatting with a woman for right around 2 weeks. We were vibing well and she popped on me that her bday was coming up. I was going to send her flowers since we haven't even met in person or anything. She said she'd rather I give her 4-500$ for a new phone. When I said no way could I do that much she almost begrudgingly said $100 would be a good 'surprise.' I messaged her and said that we wouldn't work out because her expectations are far from what mine are. Did I overreact to that situation or have I just not been up to speed on what is expected?
