Is there a anime where the main character or main group survive till the end but gets killed by a villain that they refused to kill or they forgot about him or they thought he was dead like in the last 5 minutes or something

Like think the characters are going back to home after killing the final boss but as they are about to reach their home BAM a huge explosion happens which results in one of them getting killed and then a a surprise attack kills two more followed by a another explosion that burns to death a character followed by main character getting stabbed and seeing the villain they forgot about or they thought he was dead or they refused to kill him kill him as the main character is dying we see from his pov the villain walking away after killing him and his friends
