I feel decently confident that being a man isn't right for me.
I am a twenty-two year old man and for years I've always felt a little off. I've had thoughts like this for quite a long time (maybe like two years), but I've never seriously looked into it much. I feel a lot more feminine on the inside most of the time. A few weeks ago some friends and I were at one of their houses and their girlfriends wanted one of us to paint our nails with them and I chose to do it. The rest of the night even after I got home I was blown away with how pretty and sparkly and all that they were. I sat at my desk just staring at them for a while because I loved them but when I saw myself in the mirror a little while later I felt sorta disheartened. That night really got me thinking about it a lot.
I spoke to three of my friends about it since and they're all very supportive of the thought but it seems a little bit complicated. For one, I only just started looking into it myself very recently and I don't even know where I'd begin and I'm afraid of pressure from others. As I said my friends that I've spoken to about it all encouraged me to do it if I felt that it was the right choice, but it feels almost like I'd be burdening everyone by doing it. That could just be some old ways of thinking instilled in me that I'm hearing in my head as I do come from a very rural and conservative area in the US, but I don't know. Have any of you had any experiences with friends appearing supportive but seemingly bothered after going through with it?
I'd also just like a little advice on where to start looking for help on the matter. How do I figure out whether or not these feelings are true? What resources are best for figuring out if this is really the right move for me? What are some of the ups and downs of the process that you have experienced?
I really appreciate anyone who responds and I look forward to reading what you have to say. Thank you all for your time and advice.
