why don’t parents actually parent their children anymore

i live in an apartment complex and i am child free (by choice and biologically lol). most of the kids here are like free range chickens and 99% of the time there are no adults around.

there are two younger kids (brother and sister) that actually are pretty well behaved and they usually come say hi to me and show me a trick or something with a scooter lmao. they play nicely with each other, don’t yell, and i really don’t mind them. they are NOT the problem in this story.

the brother and sister were playing outside yesterday on scooters with another older boy. the sister skated off and the older boy then FREAKIN KICKS the younger brother. i couldn’t believe it?? seriously? this kid doesn’t have a parent at home telling him to at least not kick someone??

i was in my car, but i parked it and rolled down my window and shouted, “AYE did you just kick him??” the older kid knew he was caught and just stared at me like 😨😨😨. i was like, “that was not kind to do to him… please tell him you’re sorry.” he then apologizes and i told them to have fun, but you have to play nicely.

yeah, i probably overstepped and i’m sure if a parent was around i woulda gotten an earful, but literally what is with the shitty parenting these days. can’t even tell your kid not to pick on others. pisses me OFFFFFF.

last thing i’ll say (unrelated): why the eff do kids just scream bloody murder all the time now
