I successfully stopped myself from engaging in one of my compulsions

Sharing a Win!

I’m really happy I was able to do this. One of my compulsions is every time I’m flying I have to say ‘i plead the blood of jesus’ 7 times at different points in the flight, I just whisper it to myself. I really hate this because 1 I’m not religious and 2 I haven’t had a fear of flying since childhood as I’m actually a big aviation fan. Anyway what is particularly distressing about this compulsion is it was something we had to sing every night before bed in my weird religious boarding house middle school and at the time I had a lot of ocd habits around religion which I would later come to learn.

I have flown every year of my life and so ever since around the age of 11 and being in that school (21 now) I had this compulsion and hated that it persisted even after I left religion because it feels like it still draws me back to it. However, I flew again yesterday and did not do it at all. It was really hard honestly and I had to keep telling myself that there would be no consequence for not doing so and I would feel much worse if I gave in later than if I succeeded. I did succeed and it feels great just wanted to share.
