Advice for people with genetic acne
I have been dealing with cystic acne that is mostly genetic. My father and brother had it throughout their teens and into their twenties, and I seem to have inherited their skin type. Based on what they've experienced, most of them only saw their skin start to clear around their mid-twenties, so I am not expecting a permanent fix right now. My goal is not to completely eliminate it, but to manage it while I wait for my skin to settle on its own.
I want to emphasize that I refuse to take isotretinoin or any oral medication again. I have tried them before, and the side effects, were too harsh for me.
What I am looking for are ways to keep them under control. Right now, I only wash with a gentle cleanser. No actives.
To anyone else dealing with inherited, cystic acne, especially those who are past the teenage years but still struggling: What helped you manage it?
