My restaurant has rat.
I work at a restaurant in Grimsby, and we’ve been having a serious rat problem. My boss didn't hire a professional, so the issue wasn't properly resolved. The owners are making us clean up after the rats ourselves instead of hiring a proper pest control service. They haven't shut down the basement for sanitation, and they’re not tossing out any food that’s been contaminated. They’ve just been pushing us to keep cooking and serving it to customers these past few weeks.
One of the servers was forced to clean up a dead rat, and it really traumatized her. She ended up having a mental breakdown and couldn’t come back to work. The owners fired her anyway.
I and my coworkers reported it to Niagara Health multiple times, but every time they come in, they say they don’t find anything. Meanwhile, we keep seeing them in the basement regularly.
We actually have video of the rats in the basement. But if Niagara Health isn’t doing anything about it, what can we do to let the public know and get my boss to shut the place down and clean it properly?
I’m still working there, and honestly, I feel guilty every single day. Everyone around here knows this place has rats, but no one’s able to do anything. Should I post all the videos to tiktok or contact with NewsNow or the GIN?
