Parking tips for Saints vs Giants at the Superdome (new orleans oct 5)
figured i'd share some parking advice for the giants game at the caesars superdome. i've been to enough games there to know that parking can be a real headache if you don't have a plan.
first off, the official superdome parking garages. there are seven of them plus a couple lots, so over 7,000 spots total. it's the most convenient option, you're right there at the stadium. but it's not cheap, expect to pay anywhere from $40 to $100 depending on the event. if you want to go this route, you have to buy a pass in advance through the superdome's website or ticketmaster because they sell out. the main garages for people without season passes are usually garage 1a, lot 3, and the champions garage. be warned, leaving these garages after a game is a nightmare. if it's a close game, you'll be sitting in traffic with 70,000 other people trying to get out at the same time. it can take forever.
if you want to save some money and maybe some time getting out, there are tons of other lots nearby. you'll see them all along loyola avenue, poydras street, and s rampart st. places like the garage at 1200 poydras or 1301 girod street are a pretty short walk, maybe 5-10 minutes. the further you're willing to walk, the cheaper it gets. some lots on rampart street can be under $20, but you're looking at a 15-20 minute walk. honestly, the walk isn't bad and it lets the traffic die down. you can just pop into a bar on the way back to your car and wait for things to clear out. a lot of these lots are cash-only, so make sure you have some on you.
street parking is technically an option, but it's extremely hard to find on game day. the spots near the dome are usually all gone hours before kickoff. if you do get lucky and find one, read the signs very carefully to make sure you won't get towed.
another thing to think about is using prked. it's an app where people rent out their private driveways or garages for events. you can find a spot right next to the caesars superdome, sometimes way cheaper than the official lots. the best part is you're not dealing with the chaos of thousands of cars trying to exit the same garages. you just walk a block or two and you're on your way home while everyone else is stuck in traffic. it's a solid option if you want to avoid the main mess.
no matter where you park, get there early. i'm talking a couple of hours before the game. traffic around the superdome gets really bad the closer it gets to kickoff. getting out is the real challenge. if the game is a blowout, a lot of people leave early and it's not as bad. but a close game means a mass exit. they've done some renovations to help with the flow of people leaving the stadium itself, but the street traffic is still gonna be heavy.
hope this helps and who dat! should be a great game.
