An AI based issue tracking system
Hey guys,
The Problem
From my experience, JIRA tracking has never very smooth.
- We would have a lot of conversations outside the ticket thread and a lot of that would never reflect in the JIRA.
- Someone has to manually file a JIRA for tracking and then any discussion for that issue would have to be limited to the specific ticket thread if you want it tracked
- Sometimes JIRAs are not filed for an issue and management will never hear about it until much later
- Similarly sometimes one set of users might be discussing an existing issue, without knowing there is already a JIRA to track it
The Solution
With LLMs getting really good, it has now become possible to dynamically understand context. JIRA currently updates tickets based on the thread your are responding to. With LLMs we can now have conversation anywhere, in any email, and still track it within a ticketing system.
- CC a dedicated email on any project related conversation
- The Email AI agent will understand the issues from context and will be able to do several things for you:
- Offer to file a new ticket: It will evaluate the issue description and automatically file the ticket
- Offer to update an existing ticket: It will point to tickets similar to what is being discussed so you can link the conversation
- Assign ticket to a user: If the conversation involves an action item, it will offer to assign the ticket to the user
- You can also leave instructions for the agent:
- "Create a new ticket for this issue and link it to Ticket#243"
- "Close ticket #501 and file a new one for the issue in the current release"
- "Assign the ticket to Bob"
By integrating issue management into your normal email flow a lot more tickets will get filed, tracked and resolved with very little human effort. Management will also have a much more real-time view of issues since normally there is a delay between when issues are detected and filed.
I have put together a landing page that captures all of this: https://www.smoothsail.app/
