Do some people choose partners they don’t deeply desire but feel comfortable enough with, mainly to start a family before they feel it’s too late?

I feel like my ex forced herself to be with me because I was “nice”, she wanted a family so bad and even talked about internal clocks before we broke up. Made me wonder if she was just with me to fulfill a dream. I saw the types of people she previously dated and they didn’t look like me at all.
