Tried out the new Banisher detachment...
I was one of the many theorizing this would be our new powerhouse detachment. I played 2 games with it, one against Demons and one against Deathguard. My list included GMNDK, Crowe+purifiers, Bro-cap+paladins, Boxnaught, 2 NDK, 2 strikes, and a Redeemer.
Overall detachment feels... Bad. The detachment rule was unpredictable, and almost never impactful. The strats are all very situational, honestly had nothing to use for the free strat on GMNDK (except 1 free Rapid Ingress). Mists (or Shadows now) is still fine, but with so many armies having ways to play around it, it was not impactful in either game. The only strat that pulled its weight was the anti-chaos 4+ strat that let my purifiers take a huge chunk off of a GUO in the first game and Mortarion in the second. I thought advance+charge would be great, but in reality it only increases your threat range by a few inches, and since we are often teleporting I never had a chance to use it.
In terms of our data sheets: they also feel bad. The new paladin bonus is lame. 3 dmg does nothing to improve our output into deathshroud, and we still do nothing into high toughness targets. Charged all 5+bro-cap into a GUO and did 4 damage total. And at T5 they just get shredded on the clap-back. Compared to the Deathshroud Terminators (which are only 5 ppm over us), we feel like play toys. In the second game a group of 6 Deathshroud charged my injured NDK, did 5 mortals to kill it, piled into my full-strength paladin squad, and wiped the entire unit with plenty of extra damage to spare. Crowe+purifiers was the only unit that felt potent with its wound re-rolls.
Obviously my list is not optimal, and top competetive players may have a different experience. But for me, it feels like we are in a WORSE place with the index than before. Teleport Assault was better than anything we got in the codex. All of our data sheets got a side-grade at best. And there is no way we can compete with the current top-armies on the tabletop - all we can do is teleport around and play hide-and-seek.
