Jung and the myth of Narcissus

Serious Discussion Only

It seems like there is a lot of discussion in psychology about narcissistic personalities. I understand there are various types of narcissistic personalities (Malignant, Covert / Vulnerable, Communal, Grandiose). But it also doesn’t seem like there is a “cure” for narcissists-because they never realize they ARE narcissists.

Enter Jungian individuation.

It’s possible thru individuation to “find your person from myth”. A king. a fool. a wise old man. achilles. Cassandra.

Or Narcissus.

Maybe - like in The Alchemist the journey of individuation itself is a beautiful story. one worth sharing and writing down. In that sense - thru individuation you can see the beauty of your story - and yourself as narcissus.

And avoid drowning in the lake of your own reflection.

The self-aware narcissist. aware of their own beautiful story. aware of more than just their reflection.

The “cure” for narcissists is thru individuation. And becoming the alchemist who found their inner treasure. 🙏
