How do I communicate with her better?
I am messaging here because I need some advice. None of the other forums let me post and referred me here. I am not one to typically ask for advice because I like to keep private matters private out of respect for the other person but I have no where else to turn for advice. Today I got a call around 7am from her. She was working a 20 hour shift last night and she called me early this morning and asked if I could come to see her on her campus which is in between 40m to a 1 hour drive if there is traffic. She told me she would come once she took a shower and ate something. I can only assume when she got home, showered, and ate that she preferred to go to bed and asked me to cancel which i was a bit upset but I never went off on her.
I asked her if she could meet up for an hour at least because I was really looking forward to seeing her and at that point i had driven the hour to make sure i was early or on time to our hang out. We live in a big city. I felt upset inside because i drove close to an hour because I wanted to see her. It bothered me because If I knew she was going to cancel i would have slept in because in the past two days I may have gotten maybe 5 total hours of sleep and I was tired. I communicated that with her. My quality of sleep has been declining and has been bad ever since i was little. She got upset when i asked her if she could come asked me why I was acting that way because i told her i came to campus to see her and it's inconvenient to cancel last minute. I vocalized that i want her to try to see it from my perspective as well.cNo matter how I tried to nicely communicate my perspective she claimed I was fighting with her. I told her I wasnt trying to fight with her. i was trying to share my perspective with how I felt and why it bothered me.
She told me I was being manipulative by telling her I wasnt trying to argue with her then she abruptly I think turned off her phone. Im the kind of guy who always tries to be patient, understanding, and communicative. I would be lying if I didnt admit that the way she treated hurt a lot. I was just sitting there on campus feeling horrible because no matter how tired I am or how much I have going on I almost make the time for her. I always try to understand her perspective and in that moment I felt like unimportant for a lack of better words because she didnt want to understand my point of view. I always understand hers and try to make her feel seen, heard, and understood. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and i like to say it's because she is so tired but at the sametime I know I have a point in how i feel too. Its never about who is right or wrong. Both can be right. It's moreso about both should understand each other. I feel bad because of the treatment and now I dont know where I stand with her. How can I communicate better with her? I feel bad that it ended on such a bad note and I feel bad she just turned off her phone so I dont know where I stand. I'm writing this before I return back to my side of the city. All advice welcome
