Slate writer finds out exactly how "work at home!" scams work
This is an educational and thorough article on Slate that explains the full mechanics of one of those scams that starts with an unsolicited text promising "Work at home, make money in your spare time!". TLDR: The writer seems to get pulled into some genuine clickfarm work where they are boosting play rates of song plays on a music site, but finds that the real scam is a complicated payout system that occasionally requires them to put a little money in in order to get paid out. We all know these things are scams but not exactly how; this is very informative.
