Does the Gateway Network have any good uses?
After activating all of the engines, I can’t help but feel this mechanic serves almost no purpose, outside of being required for completion. I still plan to solve all of the Gateways for the achievement, but think if I were to start a second playthrough I likely wouldn’t even bother doing any of them.
Is there anything I’m missing that would make activating them worthwhile?
The Network isn’t any faster than rockets for interplanetary, especially if you didn’t build your base right on top of a Gateway. You have to travel to the core, then the satellite, try to pick out the right planet from solar system, then travel to that core then travel to that surface. All to save 1/8th of a canister of Hydrazine. AND you don’t even get to bring anything larger than Tier 1 with you.
For in planet travel, it also seems incredibly pointless. Theres no good reason to make your base span multiple Gateways. You really have to go out of your way to do that just purely for aesthetics, at which point I feel like you might as well use trains.
It’s not even any good for getting to the outer core, because vehicles just completely Implode on themselves at the inner core. If you had any reason to go into the core again anyway.
I just don’t understand this mechanic’s place given how much work it takes to complete it, and how utterly central it is to the game’s few discrete goals. It doesn’t even add any lore snippets as far as I’m aware.
