What can cause 2 Gpus to fail

I had a GPU fail (2070) about a week ago mid gaming (first time I gamed in a while) and then I replaced the GPU (3080).

It passed all the benchmarking fine (GPU and CPU together and separate for about 2 days), but as soon as I ran a game and the sharing installed I got green artifacts that persisted to the bios when rebooting.

What could kill 2 Gpus (I couldn't smell any burning and the system was comfortably drawing 580W during stress testing)

I have a 470 gigabyte aurus mobo (5800x)

1200w andyson PSU.

My rig is about 6 years old and I can't afford to lose another grafics card.
