Naming my son with both my brothers names
Im curious to hear the consensus on this.
I have a younger brother named Jacob. We’re a year apart and get along for the most part but definitely not close and have had a lot of conflict throughout our life. As we’ve gotten older it’s been better.
I have an older brother who is about 25 years older than me from my dad’s first marriage named Stephan. We aren’t close either but I have never really had any problems with him although he has caused a lot of issues within my family. He is a deadbeat dad with anger issues and was a terrible husband to his now ex wife who was a saint. My family aside from my dad and I despise him.
We have been talking a lot about getting pregnant and have talked about boys and girl names lately. If we had a daughter she would be named Layla after the Eric Clapton song due to music/blues being a huge influence in mine and my partner’s life. It’s the genre of music we really bond over and it’s important to us. Plus we’re huge Eric Clapton fans so it just works.
If we had a son, we have talked about calling him Stevie after Stevie Ray Vaughan. Obviously his birth certificate cannot say just Stevie. So we talked about Steven and calling him Stevie.
I would want his middle name to be after my partner, so Jakob.
Steven Jakob would be the name, which are the same names as both of my brothers who I am just not close with. Weirdly enough I don’t associate either names with them because they are spelt differently and are after completely different people. Plus we would call him Stevie, while my brother goes by Stephan.
What are the thoughts here? I know my family might be taken aback that I chose Steven/Stevie but it’s genuinely not after my brother. The middle name would make sense because it’s my partner’s name so I don’t think that would cause a reaction.
My brother Stephan isn’t a bad person - he just has a lot of issues that have gone a long time without being resolved. He isn’t a woman beater or child abuser but just someone who shouldn’t have ever been married or had children due to his depression. I understand him, but of course my family doesn’t.
