Should I get the 24 gb/1tb M4 Mac Pro or the base?

I can get the m4 base for ~$1500 after taxes and the one with better specs for ~$1850. I don’t do anything intense tbh some coding/movie watching and multitasking with 6-7 apps open at once, for school I’m a math major so I’ll be running programs like MATLAB and such. I’m upgrading from the 2019 MacBook pro(32gb/1tb), it’s starting to stutter and lag a bit nowadays. I wonder if having just 16 gb ram will cause some hiccups when multitasking. I plan on using it for 3-4 years before I upgrade. Any advice would be appreciated!
