Arboretum ‘incident’ update: No threat to area, UWPD reports

UWPD spokesman gave a summary update on the to Channel3000 livestream regarding the ‘suspicious object’ found in the UW arboretum earlier today, stating that around 9am this morning a passerby reported what appeared to be a ‘grenade’ on a boardwalk. Dane County Bomb Squad responded and determined it was a ‘training device’.

Bomb squad told UWPD that they are seeing ‘more incidents like this’ as ‘people find devices like this at grandma and grandpa’s house’ and ‘try to find a quick way to get rid of it’.

The device was found in plain site, UWPD spokesman Mark Lovicott said live on air to Channel3000. The device, he said, “looks very old” and it was “completely empty inside”.

“We went through something like this at my grandparents house,” Lovicott said.
