years of silence I just need to let this out.

Honestly, I have carried this story for years quietly, painfully like something that’s stuck deep inside my chest. I want to let it out here, anonymously. I just want to breathe without the weight of it for once.

When I went to college, I thought I was finally escaping. I came from a very strict, emotionally rigid home. So I chose a college far away, thinking that distance would give me freedom. I thought I’d finally be able to think for myself, live without fear, and become the version of me I never got to be.

But I was naive. I was still so immature. I trusted people too easily. I mistook kindness for care. I didn’t see the manipulation behind certain smiles. I didn’t know how cruel rumors could be until they came for me.

In that college, people started saying horrible things about me. They made me sound like someone who had no boundaries, no self worth all lies. I was never doing anything wrong. I wasn’t hurting anyone. I wasn’t involved in anything bad. But the rumors spread anyway.

And the worst part? My own family believed them.

They didn’t ask me what was true. They didn’t give me a chance to explain. They assumed the worst and treated me like I had brought shame. They judged me so harshly, so cruelly — as if I had committed some unforgivable crime. That hurt more than anything.

For nearly ten years after that, I became silent. Afraid. Introverted. I had no real friends, not one who stayed. Not a single person from school, or from college. Nothing from that chapter of life carried forward just wounds. And now? Even today, when someone calls me or tries to talk to me, my first thought is what do they want from me? Money? Help? Something else? I don’t feel warmth or trust. I feel guarded. Suspicious. Tired.

I’ve built a life around being alone. I have a family of my own now, and things are stable. I’m in therapy. I take medication. I’m better than before, but that doesn’t mean the past is gone. It still lingers especially when people ask me about college, or about friends. Because the truth is… I don’t have those kinds of memories. I have pain. I have silence. I have fear.

Some days I ask myself: Why did no one believe me? Why did no one stay? Why did I have to carry this alone for so long?

No child should grow up feeling that unsafe. No young person should face that kind of isolation especially not from their own family. I never hurt anyone. I just made mistakes because I was young, lost, and looking for connection. And for that, I was punished not just by strangers, but by the very people who should have protected me.

Now I live with this guarded version of myself. Someone who feels safer alone. Someone who doesn’t expect kindness. Someone who wonders if real friendship is even possible anymore.

I don’t know when I’ll fully come out of this. But I wanted to speak this truth, finally. I wanted someone to know what happened even if it’s just strangers on the internet.

And if anyone else has gone through something similar if you were blamed unfairly, isolated, or emotionally abandoned I want you to know you’re not alone. You didn’t deserve that. None of us did.
