Make Clan Insignia

I'm stuck on the make a clan insignia quest for Knights Code. I don't have cheater or programmer as professions yet. I have the ingredients, but I can't figure out how to add the iron ore to the hammer, even when I pre-direct the flow of the forge towards it before adding the wood.
