I’m a Protestant considering Catholicism, convince me.

So my wife is Catholic and I’d like to attend church but we obviously have different views. I’m open to learning but a few things struggle with are: The idol worship, the legitimacy of the deuterocanonical books, controversy in the Vatican and popes over the years. Help me make sense of these things.
