Samsung support: go buy an empty USB drive and a microUSB to USB cable
I bought an s800d ultra slim soundbar. It's the only soundbar that won't block the bottom of my LG 83" B4, which has a very low stand, so it's not like I had a choice. I'm mostly content with it...
...except the hum. I only hear it when the apartment is totally quiet and the tv is muted, but there's a 60Hz AC hum, probably from the analog circuits being inadequately shielded from the AC in the woofer.
So I patiently go through the script with Samsung support. Power cycle. Reinitialize. Re-pair the woofer. Doesn't help of course. Next step is to update the firmware. Samsung has an app, Smart Things, that's supposed to do that. It says I have the current version. Auto update is on,
But that's not good enough for support because their documents say there's a newer version. They want me to do a USB update. Do you have an empty USB drive? Of course not. Go buy one. I asked where does it plug in? There's no USB port. It's the thing labeled service port and it's micro USB. You need a cable. And they don't tell you this but if you have a thumb drive it's got to be a female to male cable.
So should I spend $15 on amazon just so samsung support can go through their script? Before eventually doing a hardware swap that probably won't help because it's a design flaw not a manufacturing flaw.
Screw it. I'll live with the hum. I only notice it in the early morning hours when I mute the commercials. But I thought I'd share. "Oh, our software doesn't work. So you have to go buy some parts"
