Advice to management
Coming from a carrier, If you are a member of management or plan on being one, here’s some advice; don’t come with this energy where you pretend to be big and bad and overly authoritative. It makes you look really weak and carriers will literally laugh in your face. You can always tell when someone is a bad manager because they try to make every little thing seem like it’s a big deal. You call in once and they’ll say “this is very serious and can go on your record.” Like nobody cares. It’s not that serious. At my old office, we couldn’t keep postmasters more than a month or two and on their first day, it was always the same speech about how they’re going to “change things around here.” And “everyone who calls in all the time is gonna get punished” those managers would only last a month or two. Good managers lead by example and learn their job well and they know how to talk to carriers, because no disrespect to carriers, because I’m one myself, but we’re all a little mentally unwell and we have low tolerance for managers who try to overly assert their authority.
