Why do people actually not try to contribute?

Even on the rare occasion that my connection becomes unstable, it never results in me disconnecting, and yet I see others disconnecting weirdly often. I also sometimes see people obviously throwing the game - you can't convince me that you tried when you have less than 100 turf points.

I just want to know if there's a reason behind these people giving up. Like, the matches only last a few minutes each, what is the point of not trying? why even play the game at all if you don't intend on putting in effort? i'm seeing this in S rank matches in splatoon 3 as well, so these are all players that must have some experience with the game; surely they aren't stumped by simple things like what the objective is or the map geometry, so there must be a reason why they stop.
