How to create immersive experience for a newbie in 4 people co-op?

We're about to start a 4 pple co-op and one person has never played (but know d&d well). We want her to have a great experience exploring the story and companion quests.

If we all play origin characters, do they interact and have the conversations that explore their stories the same as if only one player controlled all characters?
