TL;DR at the bottom.

I’ve got a 2022 Outback Wilderness with ~35,000km. My wife and I usually do a lot of camping, although this year has been slow (I’m recovering from a surgery). We both work from home which is why we don’t put that much mileage on our vehicle.

Recently, we’ve been planning a few long distance road trips across Canada and would like to get into over-landing more. That’s when I went down the Tacoma rabbit hole.

I haven’t settled on any particular Toyota yet, I’m still shopping around. However, I try to focus on the Off Road trims and have found a few decent 2023’s, as well as one 2020 TRD Off Road with ~90,000km in great condition (but they want $41,000CAD).

I want to start getting more camping gear and overland mods started and I’d like to make sure I’m sinking money into the vehicle that will last and we can get the most out of.

Has anyone made a similar switch or have some advice? I do love my outback, but I like the utility and options around a truck. I’ve seen a few overland builds that are capable of so much more than my station wagon/SUV.

TL;DR
Am I out of my mind to trade my 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness (in phenomenal condition with only 35,000km) for an old Tacoma TRD Off Road (likely with double the KM’s, best case scenario)?

Thanks!
