Adhd limbo
Right now, I’m not working and I have a lot of free time. In theory, that sounds great but honestly, it’s really messing with me.
I don’t want to do anything. I just want to relax and do nothing all day. But when I actually do nothing, it doesn’t feel restful—it just makes me feel worse. I start spiraling mentally, feeling low, useless, and stuck.
So then I think, okay, maybe I should try being productive. But nothing feels interesting or worth doing unless I’m in one of my hyperfixation phases. And I’m not in one right now so everything just feels dull, boring, and unmotivating.
When I try to explain this, people say things like, “Why don’t you exercise?” or “Go outside, it’ll help!” And I get that they mean well, but it’s not that simple. It’s not that I don’t want to exercise or work on myself I actually do. But if I’m not fixated on it, it feels like a chore I can’t mentally engage with. It’s not enjoyable, it’s exhausting.
Anyone relate?
