Batt wash to keep galleried lids from sticking?

I've heard vague references to using brushable batt wash to keep gallery lids from sticking during glaze firing when firing the piece with the lid on. Has anyone done this? If so, is it done just as you would use wax? Is it more effective than wax? Does it burn off or must you wash it off after firing? Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks
